Challenge |
Streamline the
daily operations of Gibson Area Hospital by
adding servers and implementing existing ones to
serve as a center of operations for the
hospital. Current systems at GAH were
severely outdated and in need of consolidation. A lack of Active Directory and
Exchange meant decreased productivity and wasted
IT department hours. Existing user data
needed to be migrated to the new system, as well
as providing access to external and internal
email through in-house methods, while still
maintaining strict control of user access.

Project Details |
With over 350 employees, Gibson Area Hospital
and Health Services provides healthcare services
to Gibson City and much of the surrounding area.
Different users within the facility utilize a
client-server architecture and access the
general CPSI ClientWare healthcare software.
Prior to their new solution, GAHHS was running a
Windows NT4 system, using CPSI software.
The CPSI ClientWare system is the principle
healthcare information software that Gibson Area
Hospital uses on a daily basis. However,
the server was not principally owned by Gibson
Area Hospital and maintenance or issues were
routed through CPSI - increasing downtime and
service costs.
Because Windows NT is no longer supported by
Microsoft, GAHHS was looking to purchase new
hardware and improve their current services at
their location. MCS Office Technologies
configured a new HP Proliant server with Windows
2003, allowing them to manage their server
environment. Their
multiple servers were moved into an APC rack
architecture with a KVM video switch, decreasing
the footprint of their servers and consolidating
the hardware. The ClientWare system is
still on the new server and day-to-day
maintenance is performed by GAH IT staff.
"Upgrading to our new server and moving our servers to the APC rack has allowed
us to grow. Our IT department will finally
have a dedicated work area that includes the
ability to service PCs", notes Sean Patrick, IT
Director for Gibson Area Hospital.
The new server allows for in-house Exchange,
Active Directory, and a higher capacity, RAID 5
configuration. User profiles were migrated
from the legacy systems and merged with a
ScriptLogic integration into ActiveDirectory.
Alerts have also been configured too, allowing
Sean to receive emails if a particular backup
did not complete successfully or if the UPS
system is not functioning properly.
"ScriptLogic has allowed us to lock down certain
security items for particular employees of
Gibson Area Hospital and also entire departments
as well."
Further technology additions at Gibson Area
Hospital will involve
security cameras
solutions and VoIP for the entire facility,
increasing ease of mind and reducing phone
costs. Consolidation of these products and
integrating them in their server environment is
the overall goal. "We look forward to
continuing our relationship with MCS as we
continue to expand our technology."
